Your paper deck, a real opponent, right now
MTG Picker now finds you a game. Open Play online, pick a format and join the queue: we pair you with another player who wants a game at that very moment. You both use your own physical cards and play over video on SpellTable, Wizards of the Coast's free webcam table.
No digital collection to build, no new client to install. If you have a deck on your shelf and a camera, you can play tonight.
How it works
- Log in to MTG Picker (it's free) and open Play online.
- Pick a format you have a deck for. Each format shows how many players are waiting and playing right now.
- Join the queue. You're paired with the first eligible player who is waiting. Keep the page open while you wait.
- Enter the game room. You'll see both players' Picker ELO, a SpellTable link and a life counter that both of you can follow.
- Play with your real cards on SpellTable.
- Report the result. When your opponent confirms it, both ELOs update. If they don't answer within 30 minutes, the result stands.
Formats you can play
One-on-one games in Duel Commander (40 life), Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy and Pauper. For Commander, play Duel Commander: matchmaking is 1v1 for now, and four-player games are planned.
The Picker ELO
Every ranked game moves your Picker ELO, a single rating for the whole portal, whatever the format you play. It uses the standard chess formula (K = 32): beat a stronger player and you climb faster, lose to a weaker one and you drop more.
- 🥉 Bronze: below 1100
- 🥈 Silver: 1100 to 1300. Everyone starts here, at 1200.
- 🥇 Gold: above 1300
Your ELO shows next to your nickname in the header and on your player stats page. It's separate from the ELO of each league, so a bad night in the queue never touches your league standing.
The weekly online tournaments count too. Every match of the Weekly Duel Commander and Weekly Precon Commander moves your Picker ELO exactly like a game from the queue, so a good weekend can take you from silver to gold.
What you need
- A free MTG Picker account.
- A deck legal in the format you queue for.
- A camera pointed at your table: a webcam or a phone works fine.
It's free. Finding opponents and playing ranked games costs nothing, and it is not part of PREMIUM: every account can play.
