Play Magic: The Gathering from home with your real cards

MTG Picker pairs you with another player who wants a game right now. You each use your own paper deck and play over video on SpellTable, while the portal finds the opponent, tracks life totals and rates the result with a free ELO ladder.

How it works

  1. Log in and pick a format: Duel Commander, Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy or Pauper.
  2. Join the queue. You are paired with the first eligible player who is waiting.
  3. Open the SpellTable link in the game room, play with your real cards and track life with the built-in counter.
  4. Report the result. When your opponent confirms it, your Picker ELO updates.

Formats you can play

One-on-one games in Duel Commander, Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy and Pauper. Pick the format you have a deck for and wait for an opponent.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Magic online with my real, physical cards?

Yes. That is the point: you play with your own paper deck and show the table to your opponent with a webcam or phone camera on SpellTable. MTG Picker only finds the opponent, keeps the life totals and rates the result.

What do I need to play?

A deck in the format you choose, a camera pointed at your table (a webcam or a phone) and a free account on MTG Picker. The game room gives you the SpellTable link.

Is it free?

Yes. Finding opponents and playing ranked games is free.

How does the Picker ELO work?

There is one Picker ELO for the whole portal, whatever the format. Everyone starts at 1200 and the maths is the standard chess formula with K = 32. It is separate from the ELO of each league. Bronze is below 1100, silver 1100 to 1300 and gold above 1300.

Can I play Commander with four players?

Not yet. Matchmaking is one-on-one, so for Commander you can play Duel Commander. Four-player games are planned.

Is this official?
