Best cards to pair with Smaug the Magnificent in The Hobbit limited

common

Dori, Bearer of Friends
Dori, Bearer of Friends
Legendary Creature — Dwarf Warrior

Dori creates a Treasure token on entry, which directly fuels Smaug the Magnificent's damage ability since Smaug deals damage equal to the number of Treasures you control when he attacks.

 Long-Bodied Grey Dog
Long-Bodied Grey Dog
Creature — Dog

Long-Bodied Grey Dog creates a Treasure token when it enters with flash, and each Treasure increases Smaug's attack damage, making even a single extra Treasure meaningful when Smaug swings.

 Pinecone Strike
Pinecone Strike
Instant

Pinecone Strike can destroy artifact tokens including Treasures if needed, but more importantly it removes blockers so Smaug can attack freely and trigger his Treasure-based damage ability each turn.

rare

The Misty Mountains Cold
The Misty Mountains Cold
Enchantment — Saga

The Misty Mountains Cold generates Treasure tokens each chapter, directly powering up Smaug's attack damage ability, and if you already control Smaug the Magnificent, the Saga's Dragon token creation is redundant but the Treasures remain valuable.

 Smaug, Wicked Worm
Smaug, Wicked Worm
Legendary Creature — Dragon

Smaug, Wicked Worm creates Treasure tokens equal to opponents' artifact count on entry and draws a card whenever you spend Treasure mana, creating a Treasure engine that massively amplifies Smaug the Magnificent's damage output.
